20 Passenger Party Bus
A 20 passenger party bus is a perimeter-seated vehicle with a legal seated capacity of 20. Counting the driver it carries 21 people, which places it at or above the federal 16-person line that decides whether the driver must hold a commercial license with a passenger endorsement. Plan around roughly 17 passengers for comfort rather than filling every seat, and your contract will name the seating capacity of the vehicle we are sending you.

Seated versus comfortable
How many people really fit
20
Legal seated capacity of this configuration
~17
Comfortable for a full evening with movement and bags
20 is the seated capacity, not the comfortable one. Perimeter seating is measured to a narrow shoulder width, so a group of about 17 has room to move, set drinks down and get in and out at stops without climbing over each other. Tell us the real headcount and we will tell you honestly whether to size up.
At this size
What a group of 20 looks like on the day
Twenty is the size most groups mean when they say "a party bus", and the headcount a bachelor party, a 30th birthday or a bar crawl most often settles at once the list is confirmed. It is large enough that one named contact has to own the count, because two people wandering off at a stop is invisible in a group this size until the bus is about to leave. The vehicle no longer fits a hotel porte-cochere or a tight residential street, so pickup points get agreed in advance.
At this capacity the vehicle is a small party bus built on a cutaway chassis: a cab in front, a bus body behind, one passenger door with two or three steps, perimeter seating around an open floor, a bar area and a sound system. It is the smallest size with standing room and a real dance floor, and the first size where a venue will ask where the bus is going to wait.
- With 20 seated around the perimeter, roughly 8 people can stand on the floor at once without blocking the door, which is the practical limit for a moving bus.
- A 120-guest wedding block moves in 6 rotations on this vehicle and a 60-guest block in 3; each rotation is a full round trip between hotel and venue, so the loop time sets the arrival window.
- 20 is 2 tables of eight plus 4, so a dinner group that fills this vehicle usually has a part-table of plus-ones.
Driver licensing
What licence this size requires
At 20 passengers plus a driver, this vehicle is designed to carry 21 people, which puts it over the federal 16-person line in 49 CFR 383.5. Your chauffeur holds a commercial driver's license with a passenger (P) endorsement, and when the route crosses a state line we run it under active interstate operating authority with our USDOT number on file. That is not something you have to chase us for โ it is on the paperwork.
Seating and restraints
Seating layout and seat belts
Wraparound perimeter bench seating with standing headroom, a dance floor down the middle and a sound system you can run from your own phone. Belt fitment on this layout depends on the vehicle's weight class and build date, so not every position has one. If you are moving minors or a school group and need belts at every seat, tell us and we will put you on a vehicle that has them.
Luggage
What you can actually bring
Party buses are built for people, not bags. There is no luggage bay, so anything you bring rides in the aisle or on a seat, and every bag on a seat is a person who no longer has one. For a 20-passenger night, tell us up front whether luggage is traveling and we will either size up or run a second vehicle for the bags.

One size either way
Should you size up or down?
Size down
18 Passenger Party Bus
2 fewer seats. Worth comparing if your confirmed count is closer to 18: easier to route and park, and no empty seats on the bill.
Size up
22 Passenger Party Bus
2 more seats. Worth comparing if the list could grow past 20, or if you want room for bags and movement rather than a full cabin.
